Montana Pine Tessellation

500.00
When I was in Montana for the first time, I was a bit underwhelmed by the mountains.
I was kind of expecting to be in the presence of big thunderous peaks that looked giant and unattainable. The mountains were large, but seemed to hold more width than height. It wasn't until I got to know Montana a little better that I had a true appreciation for its geography. Unique in its own history, the state's small population density almost allowed the mountains to stretch their ranges far and wide. Instead of the eye wanting to follow a mountain up, to quickly acknowledge its height and power, Montana's ranges had to be absorbed by following its latitude structure. The unrestricted breadth of the mountains were only comparable to the margins of the sky and the lakes that encompassed these colossal land-forms. Water, mountain, and sky seemed to run together on a vast horizontal and infinite path.
That's what this pine grain reminds me of. Although this re-creation is an inferior alternative to the real thing, the merging of the rippling billows seen in pine reflect a harmonious blend that can only be witnessed when you're standing in a Montana mountain range, submerged in long waves of incalculable beauty.
